They would have to compliment the guitars, which will of course be tuned to B E B C C#D. If you have not yet tried this tuning, try it, you will understand - it's pretty mean

Ok, I'll try it out tonight!
Also, just found out that the Mandolin is actually
GDAE like a violin not EADG like a guitar.

Well... it'll be in totally different tuning so where you put your fingers on the fretboard to find the chords and scales will be different. Because the first three are BEB you can play power chords by just barring the low three strings. A bit like in drop D tuning*. God knows what the high notes'll sound like. That's why I have to try it. *Drop D is the same as normal tuning but the lowest string goes down to D not E That gives you: DADGBE So you can play a D chord by just barring across the first DAD with one finger, means you can play really fast powerchord riffs. AFAIK Left Side Brain still mainly use that type of tuning but with the whole guitar tuned down another semitone so it's even heavier sounding.

"defining tonal areas "? You've lost me. I normally just randomly play notes and hope they sound good together.

Urgh... I'm rubbish at theory, I should learn more but I'm also very lazy. I just ask any of the other band members if I have a question - or they tell me stuff like "that should be the major" or "try the minor third" and I'm like "huh?" and they say "play A!" The way I see it changing tunings means that my random experimentations just have a different feel to them. I'll blame G if I take a riff written in BEBCC#D to rehearsals and they have to work out how to play along with it.

haha, i say that kind of stuff like "play the relative minor" and just get dodgey looks! - they know what they're doing by doing it there own way, and they're all guys so i aint gonna try argue! (they're all scary in my band)
haha, bless them at that weird tuning! they'll spend the full rehearsal giving you evil glares lol! - see i'm lucky - i just sing, i dont need to worry about keys and wierd tunings etc! lol!! but i might learn about that tho! sounds interesting!

It sounds appropriately 'evil' which is just right for Necrofury. and involves very loose flappy strings.
